CoastWise Consulting is a specialist environmental consulting company spearheaded by Tandi Breetzke, recognised coastal specialist, which operates in collaboration and association with various companies and specialists including Royal HaskoningDHV, FutureWorks, Phelamanga Projects and Groundtruth.
CoastWise consulting is known for the innovativeness of its approach and in-depth knowledge, practical and extensive experience, proven ability and intimate understanding of the requirements for integrated coastal management - both current and future.
Who we are
Tandi Breetzke – BA Honours (Geography)
Tandi has a BA honours degree in Geography and was previously responsible for the management and development of the Royal HaskoningDHV Coastal Management Unit where she undertook coastal and estuarine specific consultancy work and was recognised by the company as a Leading Professional. Prior to that, Tandi championed the development of the Integrated Coastal Management specialisation in South Africa and KZN, from its early policy beginnings as a Green Paper and White Paper to its eventual enactment into law and implementation. Tandi initially developed government policies and procedures as a provincial government official and thereafter, as an environmental consultant, implemented these principles of ICM that were developed. Tandi has also mentored and guided numerous young professionals and students within the field of integrated coastal and environmental management, thereby promoting the sustainability and longevity of the profession and ICM specialisation.
Catherine Meyer - MSc Estuarine Ecology (UKZN)
Catherine has a Msc degree in Estuarine Ecology. Her passion and experience for estuarine ecosystems was nurtured and enriched through her active participation in various research projects under the Estuarine Porfolio at the Oceanographic Research Institute, a subdivision of the South African Association for Marine Biological Research. For four years, Catherine conducted biological studies in numerous estuarine systems in Kwazulu-Natal, leading to the achievement of her Masters Degree. She has more than five years experience in biological data collection, laboratory processing, microscopy and identification of benthic macroinvertebrates. During her time as an Environmental Consultant at Royal HaskoningDHV, Catherine provided specialist support regarding estuarine and coastal ecology to the Coastal Management Unit. She is also an accredited SASS5 biomonitoring practitioner, focussing on invertebrate communities and riverine health. Believing in the importance of educating young minds, Catherine assists with the Schools MiniSASS programme, imparting knowledge to scholars on the value of aquatic ecosystems.
